The Complete Overview

A percussion massager hits the muscle. hi® was tuned to travel past it.

hi® is a patented percussion and vibration system built around one engineering decision: the amplitude is calibrated to resonate with connective tissue rather than pound the surface. It reaches deeper into the body while feeling gentler on the skin. That single property is what makes everything else on this page possible.

And the device is only part of it. Every hi® owner trains in a body of protocols developed over sixteen years, spanning sports recovery, lymphatic clearance, nervous system regulation, pressure point work, pelvic wellness, and a couples ritual. You are not buying a tool. You are learning a practice.

What hi® actually is.

Before the applications, the markets, or the training, it helps to understand the machine and the one design choice that separates it from every recovery device on the shelf.

The hi® System, a patented percussion and vibration wellness device

hi® is a professional grade, wall powered percussion and vibration system. Two independently controlled percussive heads. A separate blue vibratory guide. Seven levels of percussion, seven levels of vibration, and the ability to run both at once in combinations no single modality device can produce.

Most percussion guns are built to hit hard and stop at the muscle surface. That is why they feel like being pounded, and why so many of them end up in a closet by week six. The hi® amplitude was engineered differently. It is calibrated to resonate with connective tissue, which means the energy travels further into the body while the skin feels less of the impact.

You get a bigger effect at depth, without the sensation of being beaten up. That is the paradox competitors cannot replicate without running into the underlying design.

The blue vibratory guide is a second tool inside the tool. It runs from very mild to genuinely intense, and it reaches places percussion should never go: the delicate lymph gateways above the collarbone, under the arms, behind the knees, along the inner thigh, and the cheeks and jawline. Low and slow where percussion would be far too much.

Because hi® is wall powered rather than battery powered, there is no cell to die mid session. It sustains therapist grade output for as long as the session needs, on yourself or on a partner, with a three meter cable that reaches every zone comfortably.

The Device

Engineered for the whole body, including the parts other tools avoid.

The specifications matter because they are the reason the protocols work. This is not a percussion gun with a marketing story bolted on.

Percussion
High amplitude, roughly 4 to 35 Hz
Controllable in seven steps, from gentle to more intense than most people expect. Tuned for depth of travel, not surface force.
Vibration
Roughly 40 to 140 Hz, blue vibe guide
Independently controlled, seven steps, from very mild to intense. Purpose built for lymph gateways, nerve regions, and pressure points.
Waveforms
49 tunable combinations
Percussion and vibration combine into distinct waveform patterns. Single modality devices cannot produce them.
Power
Corded, 24V DC, under 1.5A

Why hi® Is Different

Seven things no other recovery device does. Any one of them would be the whole pitch elsewhere.

Recovery brands compete on motor torque and battery life. hi® competes on where the energy goes, what it does when it gets there, and whether you actually know how to use it.

01 / The Amplitude

Travels deeper. Feels gentler.

The core engineering decision. Standard percussion delivers force at the surface and stops at the muscle. The hi® amplitude is calibrated to resonate with connective tissue, so the energy carries further into the body while the skin feels less of the hit. The practical result is deeper work with no bruising and no pounding sensation, which is also why people keep doing it.

A specification competitors cannot replicate without infringing the underlying design.
02 / Two Modalities, One Tool

Percussion and vibration, independently controlled.

Percussion releases deep muscular tension and triggers rapid myotatic reflex contractions. Vibration reaches tissue and nerve regions percussion cannot approach safely. Almost every other tool gives you one or the other. hi® runs both at once, in 49 combinations, which is what the lymphatic, pressure point, and pelvic protocols actually require.

The vibe guide runs from very mild to intense. Both ends of that range have a job.
03 / The Nervous System

Built to find the parasympathetic switch, not just the sore spot.

This is the difference most people miss. hi® protocols deliberately target the regions where parasympathetic nerves are concentrated, including the vagus pathways at the neck and shoulders and the sacral region. Deep, rhythmic work in those specific zones is designed to move the body out of survival mode and into the rest and repair state where recovery, sleep, and desire all live.

Most recovery tools work on muscles. This one is aimed at the system that governs them.
04 / Lymphatic Clearance

The second circulatory system, and it has no pump.

Your blood has a heart. Your lymph has nothing, and depends entirely on movement, breath, and external stimulation. hi® includes complete routines for the twelve major lymph node zones, using the gentle vibe guide on the delicate gateways and percussion on the deep muscle pump. Clear the gateways first and everything downstream drains instead of pooling.

The only recovery device with protocols built around the lymphatic system rather than just muscle.
05 / Pressure Points

The benefits of acupressure, without the training or the thumbs.

hi® includes protocols for targeting key pressure points across the body. The vibratory guide delivers sustained, precise stimulation to points that are difficult to work manually and awkward to reach on yourself. You get much of what acupressure offers, more easily, and without needing years of practice to find and hold the point correctly.

Taught as part of the program, not left for you to figure out from a diagram.
06 / Through Clothing

Fully clothed, which changes who will actually do it.

Every pelvic and intimate protocol is designed to be performed through clothing. The percussion presses inward far enough to carry through fabric. That is not a minor convenience. It means massage can happen in a much broader range of settings, it makes couples sessions fast when time is short, and above all it removes the exposure that stops many women from ever starting. Body image worry is one of the biggest barriers to receiving care. Staying clothed removes it, and a relaxed person receives far more benefit than a self conscious one.

No clinical setting. No preparation. No reason to put it off.
07 / Skills, Not A Gadget

The device is one part of what you get.

Every hi® owner receives a structured training program that runs from basic self massage to genuinely advanced technique, taught live every week by Dr. Steve and Wendy McGough and certified hi® instructors, alongside a private member community. Pressure, timing, angle, how to read a body, how to work on a partner. This is the part that turns a purchase into a practice, and it is why the six patents cover the methods as well as the hardware.

You do not just buy a device. You graduate from it with skills therapists spend years acquiring.
08 / One Device, Two People

Self massage, and a couples practice that does something else entirely.

hi® works on your own body. It also anchors the 3-Step Method, a weekly ritual where each partner takes a turn giving and receiving. The same fifteen minutes improves both bodies, drops both nervous systems into deep relaxation, and rebuilds something most long relationships quietly lose. One purchase. Two bodies. Two completely different outcomes.

Nothing else on the market is engineered for performance and for connection at the same time.
Expert Perspective

You have now read eight claims from us. Here is someone else's read.

Dr. Massimo Fontana is a psychologist specializing in relationships, with more than 47,000 followers on TikTok. He was the first person in Europe fully trained on hi® technique, and he is now building programs with it on stress, trauma, and nervous system regulation.

In this short video he explains, in his own words and from his own clinical practice, why hi® reaches something other recovery tools do not. He is not reading our copy. He found the same thing we did, from a different direction.

Every application below runs on the same device.

One purchase. All the protocols. Weekly live training included.

01 Foundation

Sports recovery and deep tissue release.

The base layer. hi® delivers percussion that goes where a standard massage gun cannot, into the thighs, back, shoulders, and the connective tissue that holds chronic tension, without the surface pounding that makes most people cut sessions short.

Corded power means the intensity does not fade partway through, which matters more than it sounds when you are working large muscle groups or a partner's whole back. The 12-week core program teaches the full self massage sequence and the partner techniques.

  • Deep tissue release into muscle and fascia, without bruising
  • Myotatic reflex contractions that flush the tissue and restore mobility
  • Sustained therapist grade output for as long as the session runs
  • Works as well in a partner's hand as in your own

Lymphatic clearance, the system nobody trains.

Your circulatory system has a heart. Your lymphatic system has nothing, and moves only through movement, breath, and external stimulation. Sit for long hours under steady stress and it stagnates, which shows up as inflammation, puffiness, fatigue, and recovery that drags.

The hi® Lymphatic Flow Protocol is roughly ten minutes: the gentle vibe guide on the delicate gateways above the collarbone, under the arms, behind the knees and inner thigh, percussion on the deep muscle pump, and diaphragmatic breathwork driving the cisterna chyli. Clear the twelve major node zones first and everything you do afterward, sauna, drainage massage, rebounding, lands harder.

  • Vibration opens the choke points manual pressure cannot get past
  • Percussion squeezes lymph through its one-way channels
  • Breathwork acts as the internal pump
  • Works standalone, or as the opening move of a longer recovery routine
What we can say: a randomized controlled pragmatic trial found low frequency vibrotherapy added to manual lymphatic drainage significantly outperformed drainage alone. That study did not use hi®. It establishes that the principle is real, not that our device produces the same result.

The parasympathetic response, on purpose.

This is the piece that makes hi® something other than a nicer massage gun. Steve was the first to document methods for transcutaneous vagus nerve and sacral plexus stimulation through percussion. That is the prior art the patents rest on, and it is why the protocols are routed the way they are: the shoulders and back of the neck along the vagus pathways, the lower back, and the sacral region.

Modern life holds the body in a low grade survival state. In that state recovery slows, sleep gets shallow, and desire quietly switches off. Deep, rhythmic, sustained work in those specific zones, paired with slow diaphragmatic breathing, is designed to move the body into rest and repair. Almost every other benefit on this page depends on getting there first.

Dr. Massimo Fontana is building a program on exactly this: hi® applied to pressure points to calm an overloaded nervous system and work through stress and trauma. He came to it as a practicing psychologist, not as a customer.

  • Targeted work on vagus pathways at the neck and shoulders
  • Sacral region protocols for lower body and pelvic nervous system engagement
  • Paired breathwork built into every routine

Pressure points, without the thumbs or the years.

Acupressure works, and almost nobody does it, because finding the point, holding it correctly, and sustaining pressure long enough is genuinely difficult, especially on yourself. Thumbs get tired. Angles are awkward. Most people give up.

hi® includes protocols for targeting key pressure points across the body using the vibratory guide, which delivers precise, sustained stimulation for as long as the point needs without any of the effort. You get much of what the modality offers, more easily, and the training teaches you where the points are and how to read the response rather than leaving you with a chart.

  • Sustained, precise stimulation the hand cannot maintain
  • Reaches points that are awkward or impossible to work on yourself
  • Taught inside the program alongside the recovery and lymphatic work
  • Bridges Eastern modality with a Western tool

05 Women's Wellness

Women's pelvic wellness. The original application.

Before the couples work and before the sports program, this is what hi® was built for. Steve created it to help Wendy recover from tissue adhesions after multiple surgeries. Everything else came afterward.

Three external positions, three to five minutes each, all performed through clothing. Percussion compresses the lower abdomen several thousand times per minute, inducing myotatic reflex contractions. The blue vibe guide engages the sacral parasympathetic region, the sacral plexus, and the puborectalis. Vibration on pelvic lymph node clusters supports fluid clearance.

The insight that makes it different: pelvic floor challenges are often not simple weakness. They are imbalanced tension, where one side sits in spasm and pulls the urethral sphincters out of alignment. Strong muscles cannot close properly if they are misaligned, which is why Kegels alone leave so many women where they started.

  • Three positions, fully clothed, no clinical setting, no preparation
  • Addresses tension and circulation, not just contraction strength
  • Reaches the fascial network Kegels do not touch
  • Works solo, or as part of the couples ritual
What we can and cannot say: a 2007 peer reviewed study applied percussive stimulation to the perineal region and reported a 73% cure rate at six weeks with 67% still reporting resolution at three months. That study used a different device. hi® applies related principles at greater amplitude with dual modality stimulation. We make no medical claims about urinary incontinence, and hi® has not been evaluated by the FDA. Please speak with your healthcare provider.

06 Women's Wellness

Chronic UTI. A study is currently running.

Chronic urinary tract infection persists in large part because the bacteria shelter inside biofilms, aggregates in a self produced matrix that shields them from antibiotics and immune cells alike. The course of antibiotics ends, symptoms fade, the sheltered survivors remain, and weeks later the infection returns. Each loop raises the odds of resistance.

The rationale is straightforward. If you cannot dissolve the shield, disturb it mechanically. Your dentist already relies on this principle: dental plaque is a biofilm, and chemicals alone do not remove it. Percussive and vibratory therapy with postural drainage is standard for clearing thick mucus in cystic fibrosis. hi® applies the same physics to the bladder and urethra, externally.

The protocol page lays out six biologically plausible mechanisms, each linked to peer reviewed literature, alongside an unusually blunt account of where the evidence is analogous rather than direct. It is written for healthcare providers to evaluate, not for patients to self prescribe.

  • Biofilm disruption and improved antibiotic interaction
  • A 2024 RCT of low frequency bladder vibration at 5 to 10 Hz, the closest direct support
  • Tissue perfusion, lymphatic drainage, neuromuscular function, comfort
  • Separate protocols for female and male anatomy, provider guided
Read this carefully: direct clinical research on hi® specifically is limited. The mechanisms are extrapolated from adjacent modalities including ultrasound, shockwave, and whole body vibration. hi® is a wellness device, has not been evaluated by the FDA, and no claim of benefit or cure is made. Dr. Andy Davis's account on that page is one individual's personal experience and is not evidence of efficacy. The CUTI research trial is currently running.

07 Men's Health

Men's health. Drug free, and rarely about the body.

There are two very different categories here. Physical causes involve blood vessels or nerves and need a doctor, and penis health is an early indicator of vascular health generally, so that deserves real attention. The other category is stress related, where everything works fine but the nervous system is locked in fight or flight and will not route blood where it is wanted.

hi® was built for that second category. Studies on men with spinal cord injuries found that certain frequencies of mechanical stimulation can induce erection even when the brain's signal cannot reach the body at all. hi® produces frequency and amplitude ranges similar to what those studies used, at a fraction of the roughly $900 those clinical devices cost.

The wider point, and the one men miss: hi® gives a man a way to take care of his partner first, with no pressure on himself. Which is frequently the exact thing that removes the pressure.

  • Vibratory approach aimed at the nerve rather than the enzyme
  • Full body relaxation protocols that address the stress and sleep cycle underneath
  • A urologist's recorded perspective on the approach
  • The same device serves both partners
What we can say: hi® is a wellness device, has not been evaluated by the FDA, and is not intended to diagnose, prevent, treat, or cure any condition including erectile dysfunction. Results vary. If there may be a physical cause, please see a healthcare professional first.

First Step For Fertility. Because it should not feel like a lab experiment.

Trying to conceive turns intimacy into a scheduled procedure, and the stress that creates is its own problem. First Step For Fertility is an extension of the 3-Step Method that replaces the calendar with a weekly ritual, so couples make love regularly through the fertile window because they want to rather than because an app told them to.

It does three things at once: gives both partners a reliable way to relax deeply, brings genuine excitement back to the bedroom, and establishes a ritual that keeps deepening over years. It is explicitly not a replacement for a doctor. If conception is proving difficult there are many factors a physician needs to address, and we are glad to refer people to fertility specialists.

  • Built on the 3-Step Method with additional physical techniques for couples
  • Removes the scheduling pressure that makes conception feel clinical
  • Developed by clinical sexologists who lived the problem themselves
  • Referral relationships with natural fertility specialists
What we can say: hi® makes no medical claims regarding fertility or conception. First Step For Fertility addresses stress, relaxation, and connection in the bedroom. It does not replace medical care, and anyone having difficulty conceiving should work with a qualified provider.

09 Longevity

Face, beauty, and an unexpected brain research frontier.

The vibe guide is gentle enough for facial work, including toning along the trigeminal nerve and the cheeks and jawline. Never percussion on the face or the front of the throat. That produces the visible lymphatic benefits people buy expensive facials for, in about five minutes.

Then it gets more interesting. In June 2025, researchers at the Institute for Basic Science in South Korea published work in Nature mapping lymphatic vessels sitting millimeters beneath the skin of the face and neck, a previously unknown drainage route for cerebrospinal fluid. Those surface vessels stayed functional with age even as deeper routes degenerated. In aging mice, gentle mechanical and vibratory stimulation tripled brain waste clearance, restoring flow toward youthful levels.

That is precisely what the hi® face and neck routine already does: gentle vibration on the cheeks and jawline, followed by percussion on the back of the neck and shoulders.

  • Gentle facial vibration for lymphatic clearance and toning
  • Neck and shoulder percussion, the same sequence used in the research
  • Fits inside the ten minute lymphatic protocol
  • Taught in the beauty and longevity training modules
Read this carefully: that research is early and was conducted primarily in animal models. Human trials are underway. hi® makes no medical claims and this protocol is not intended to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any disease or condition, including cognitive decline.

10 The Capstone

The 3-Step Method. Fifteen minutes, once a week.

Everything above serves one body. This serves two, and it is the part that surprises people. The agreement is simple: once a week, each partner gives the other a fifteen minute massage with hi®.

Step one, you receive. For once you are the complete center of attention, and your partner works through the day's tension targeting the nerve regions that switch on the relaxation response. No giving back yet. Step two, you reconnect. You trade places. Step three, you finish however you want. Many couples let it lead naturally to intimacy. That part is always optional and always theirs to decide. The point is arriving there relaxed and wanting to.

What makes it deepen rather than fade is the reversal that happens over time. At first each partner mostly looks forward to their own turn. Eventually watching the other person melt becomes the part they crave. Sanskrit has a word for that pleasure taken in a partner's contentment, mudita, and English does not. It is the quality you can see in an elderly couple who clearly still adore each other. It is built, week by week.

  • Sits on top of a serious recovery system, so fitness and intimacy stop competing for time
  • Works fully clothed, which makes it fast when the week is short
  • Addresses low desire and performance worry without a clinical appointment
  • Refined over sixteen years with thousands of couples

Partners receive private advanced technique training that would otherwise be expensive, because a partner who has lived the method shares it better than one reading from a script. And the weekly partner meeting is not a sales call. It is a goal achievement structure built on fifty years of combined experience, where the group sets small specific goals, commits to them out loud, and follows up the next week.

That single loop, repeated, is where the change happens. Partners use it on their finances, their health, their relationships, and their sense of what they are capable of. The program is also the direct path to the Certified hi® Instructor track.

  • Advanced technique sessions. Private Zoom trainings in advanced hi® technique for recovery, relaxation, and couples work. Skills you use on yourself first.

Steve, Daniela, and Wendy McGough at Fort Fisher
Dr. Steve and Wendy McGough, founders of hi®
Where This Came From

hi® did not start as a product. It started as a husband trying to help his wife.

Wendy and Steve tried for six years to conceive, then a year of hormone treatments. They became pregnant. Then Wendy was exposed to a multi antibiotic resistant infection, became critically ill, and their son Luke was delivered by emergency c-section months early. He lived a day.

Wendy spent the next two years fighting for her life. She recovered, and was told she could never become pregnant again given the extent of the damage.

Steve built the first version of hi® to help her with the tissue adhesions left by multiple surgeries. The relief was the goal. The return of pleasure and closeness was completely unexpected, and it became the foundation of everything they teach now.

Then something happened that nobody had predicted. After months of daily use, Wendy developed symptoms that made no sense. Twenty four weeks and seven doctor visits later, they discovered she was pregnant with a daughter.

Daniela is the biggest blessing of the whole process. Sixteen years, six patents, and thousands of couples later, that is still where all of this came from.

New for 2026

Lifespanning Magazine named Steve one of its Global Top 50 Innovators.

Recognized for creating the hi® technology. Issue 50 also carries a full feature interview with him. Both pages are shown here, and the complete issue is linked below.

The specific claim underneath the recognition: Steve was the first to document methods for transcutaneous vagus nerve and sacral plexus stimulation through percussion. That is the piece of prior art the six patents sit on, and it is the reason the nervous system protocols on this page exist at all.

Lifespan Certified mark, granted to the hi® System after independent review

Recognition of the inventor followed independent review of the invention. hi® is Lifespan Certified, a mark granted after Lifespanning's validation board of scientists and longevity experts reviewed the system for scientific grounding and ethical standards.
